Hmm, where might they exist?  I posted them originally to gcc-patches, but 
Alexandre Oliva said the patches should got to libtool instead.

I don't have a separate libtools CVS checkout; I'm using the latest net GCC CVS 
sources; I'll gladly redo the patches once I find out what is appropriate to 
patch against.

The binutils repository has a working GNU ld configuration for AIX5/IA64 
(sourceware.cygnus.com:/cvs/src).  The libtools patch simply keeps standard GNU 
ld settings, instead of a) disabling shared libs
altogether or b) setting options for the AIX linker.
