Dan:

This patch has problems, I can't get it to apply to the current head,
and the ltmain.in context isn't in ltmain.in.  I was actually
working on fixing the problems with AIX/gcc that I found, but I'm
not that close to finished so if you can do better than 2 test
failures (I hope so!) please post an updated patch.
