This can't be so with current GUB, because it bypasses configure for documentation build (comment #3); if you (or another developer who builds GUB, on my side I won't have any computer available other than an eeePC with Intel Atom until several days) can remove "--disable-documentation" flag for LilyPond's configure in native build, then I'm happy to put a more coherent logic in this configure script. Otherwise, let's not care about tar and gftodvi for now, at least the patch under review is an improvement for builds without GUB.
