http://code.google.com/p/lilypond/issues/detail?id=1698I like David's suggestion better, since it is a single command and very easy to remember. And your comment #39 makes the argument for a single \broken command even stronger.
On the other hand: If I understand the patch correctly, your patch enables lilypond to automatically break the slur, so those commands are rarely used, right? I can imagine to temporarily remove \startBrokenSlur and friends until someone we come to a final decision (and maybe `someone' adds support for \broken :-).
Your patch actually adds good functionality, and together with the `slurOverRepeat' property certainly enhances lilypond.
