I support adding a bit of skyline-horizontal-padding to all text-like  
grobs, but i'm not sure about the value.  Currently LyricText has  
skyline-horizontal-padding = 0.1; i think that 0.5 may be too much.

I suggest to start with setting skyline-horizontal-padding = 0.2 for all  
text grobs; maybe it won't solve all problems but it should definitely be  
an improvement, and without noticeable drawbacks.
