This is very suspicious: i've just tested it again from scratch (commit  
93ea0f8141f2e382e7e4c0de62ceac832b31575c) and the regtests were completed,  
with about a dozen expected differencies.

Yesterday i was having similar trouble (i.e. make check failed with no  
apparent reason).  Do you still have logs available?
