http://code.google.com/p/lilypond/issues/detail?id=2658Regarding comment #72: the file size increase is ridiculous, and frankly, the PostScript code is as well. 95% of the size increase will be due to the rendering of stems, so it would appear that creating some (on-the-fly?) hinted font for stems should help get us rid of most problems. I can try seeing whether using user paths will help any (they are a caching mechanism) but I suspect they will at best lead to some speed improvements (if at all) in PostScript rendering but not transfer to PDF size at all.
