http://code.google.com/p/lilypond/issues/detail?id=3572If "secure" means cluttering the file system with lots of files by default, I disagree strongly. People wanting that kind of security can get it on a filesystem level. It's not something that a utility should do unasked-for.
Of course, we would not consult Emacs state variables: instead you would use a -n option or similar to create numbered backups (or at least the first such backup).
