http://code.google.com/p/lilypond/issues/detail?id=3574At any rate, a substitute for \bracketCloseSymbol could be only ] itself, and the various actual letters work only in a limited number of lexer modes (including straightforward \notemode).
So _if_ someone used \bracketCloseSymbol for a _sound_ reason, ] would not have cut it. Which makes issue 2931 a nice complement for issue 3487. What better justification than if it solves an unrelated problem completely (not just giving the means to solve it, but actually making the problem go away)?
It also means that it becomes easier to play around with events not intended for the mode, like using \"~" in \lyricmode to conjure a tie event.
