HI Vaughan,
I'm using a pristine clean new Debian 9, Frescobaldi 3, and
whatever Python that currently uses of course. This effect hit
all of a sudden. The string quartet I have to write in blocks
of ten pages to keep Frescobaldi snappy in response, but it
just hit the wall. Perhaps a coincidence after an OS update,
or perhaps i have just hit some complexity threshold where
Frescobaldi goes non-linear. Although not large in length, I
am after all engraving New Complexity School scores, and the
music is fairly dense with detail.
Just a random thought: is it by any chance possible that you
managed to force Frescobaldi into a loop, for example by circular
includes?

Hello Federico,
Thanks for the input. Current score is only
ten pages of string quartet music. Complex yes,
but not vast. It suddenly stated after a Debian
9 update.
I love Frescobaldi, but the very sluggish
response now of the text editor is unusable, and
I have had to abandon it for Emacs. Emacs is
great, but the indentation is abysmal, and just
messes up really quickly. Caught between two
unsatisfactory worlds now. I think I am going to
have to take on the monumental task or rewriting
from scratch the lilypond mode indenting and
formatting engine. If I can achieve anything in
that area, it may be a good side effect of this
Frescobaldi problem.

Hmmmm, I've been running Frescobaldi on
Debian 9 without any problems for a while now. IIRC (not
near my computer) it's Frescobaldi 3 which uses a
different version of Python.
(Also, I messed up the upgrade so it became
effectively a clean install of Debian 9)
