Follow-up Comment #1, bug #43202 (project octave):
Octave 3.6.2 is "ancient".
I wouldn't be surprised if this issue has been fixed long time ago (it does
ring a bell).
Can you upgrade to 3.8.x? There's a 3.8.2 "unofficial" binary installer
online.
