I think you are pasting text which contains two <Tab> characters at the
beginning of the continuation lines, is that correct?

Octave uses the <Tab> character in the interactive command line to complete on
variable and function names. So in the middle of your matrix definition, the
<Tab> characters are triggering Tab-completion when you are pasting the entire
block of text. Try removing the tabs or using spaces instead.

If that works, I don't think this is a bug but rather a feature of how
readline works (and will be the same in bash or other readline-linked
interactive programs).
