Follow-up Comment #105, bug #44478 (project octave): Instead of using framebuffers, my thought was to write a standalone program that links only with OSMesa and not GL. Then this external program acts as a filter, accepting the graphics properties that define the plot and generating PostScript (or whatever) to be read by Octave.
