Follow-up Comment #4, bug #60786 (project octave):

I should have posted sooner.  I used gdb to resolve the issue down to the same
call to std::pow.  I've coded a patch, but haven't pushed it yet because I
wanted to ask some questions on the Octave Discourse site about potentially
simplifying the code.
