Follow-up Comment #26:

comparing the structure of the conditional statement with comment #4, i think
you are correct on the parentheses placement error. 

Reopening for now so that that can be examined and corrected. would be
interesting to see what order of magnitude differences, if any, correcting
this line would introduce.
