It is. I notice however that the manpage for mkosi
says that it looks for "mkosi.default", not "mkosi.conf".
Maybe it needs a newer mkosi than Ubuntu ships?
(mkosi --version says "mkosi 12".)

I'll use the images Cédric has kindly generated.
