Maybe somebody on the list can help while I am away (I will be at the Ham Radio Exhibition as of tomorrow morning), or send a mail to address@hidden who is the maintainer of the SLackware ham stuff... Maybe there is a Slackware trick to install .deb files??
Alien will convert between .deb, .rpm, slackware .tgz, Stampede .slp and Solaris .pkg package types. I have generally (with a few exceptions) had good luck converting .rpm to .deb, but have not tried any of the other possibilities. I don't know how well this process handles dependencies (when I used Slack and Red Hat 10+ years ago, they didn't deal very well with dependencies, but hopefully that has improved).
