Excellent suggestion.  A better question would be why I didn't do this in 
the first place since the link I posted even suggested that. I can only 
plead late-night frustration after banging my head against my PC setup for 
a few hours thinking it had to be something there.

Could be, which is why I mentioned it was Resa's code, I recall others were 
using it also.  Ian's brown-out suggestion sounds plausible, and Larry 
suggested checking lock bits. I'm going to double-check those too.
