There has been some very good work by Martin Thomas on a Win32 API version of
avrdude (as opposed to linking with Cygwin, which that is what WinAVR has).
We're trying to get as much feedback as possible on this new code. It's already
fixed some other users' problems. The source, and a binary, can be found here:

Please give it a try, and let the list know how it works out.
It looks like this will be rolled into the avrdude project for future releases.
