I think you are correct and that the GNU
autoconf-2.57.tar.bz2 has a directory error maybe that
caused the problem.  I will say libtool-1.4.3.tar.gz is
where "aclocal" come from.  I simply copied libtool.m4 to
the /usr/share/libtool directory and fixed it.

I found libtool.m4 in /usr/share/aclocal only from SuSE8.0.
However, compiling libtool-1.4.3 didn't move libtool.m4 to
/usr/share/libtool either.  

So the file autoconf source libtool4.test may have a
directory error.

Again Thanks to the GNU Folks for at least writing the code
and people like yourself willing to try and help.  Try that
with Mr.Bill.
