The problem you encountered has already been fixed in the
Automake's git repository; JFTR, the relevant commit should
be `375912c466b28a6121d351b9ff5513133a1c7227':

Note that this fix has been included in the Automake release 1.11.1,
which also fixed a quite serious security issue:

Thus I'd advise you to switch to Automake 1.11.1 for the future, if
you have the possibility.
