Bitstream used to distribute a free font called Cyberbit that supported a
large subset of Unicode (including Chinese characters). I have a copy, but
its license prohibits redistribution.
Many reasonably recent Microsoft TrueType fonts are Unicode-based, and the
most recent Ghostscript versions can handle them. If you can find a TTF
that contains the characters you need, Ghostscript should do OK with it
(although not at screen resolution, since Ghostscript omits the TTF
"hinting" mechanism because of patents).
