And that is exactly where we disagree: I think the plight of the
package maintainers and users _should_ matter.
Standards don't exist for their own good: they are meant to help
people. So if changing a standard helps some people but does a
disservice to others, the merits and demerits of the change should be
weighed one against the other to decide whether to make that change.
