I guess it is not possible to use something different instead?
Eg. multiple archives, or per version subdirectories?

Actually it is not me who has problems with that.
Other devs and users started to curse after I deployed autopoint into our 
project...

I just assumed that if you are using cvs, you also download something.
I have to admit that I didn't understand the code completely.
