The zipped file shows that the weights are in fact the old ones. I
downloaded them and the weight file is dated December 13.

Maybe change eval.h line 36
from
#define WEIGHTS_VERSION "0.12"
to
#define WEIGHTS_VERSION "0.12b"

and

gnubg.weights line 1
from
GNU Backgammon 0.12
to
GNU Backgammon 0.12b

That way gnubg.wd 0.12b is generated, and Analysis / Evaluation engine
shows
'0.12b'
