Can't test anything at the moment as I'm at home. Seems like
"pkg-config --libs gtk-2.0" reports the same on Solaris (without
-lX11) but obviously needs X11. Didn't try with 1.2.
Unfortunately, I still hardly know anything of the auto* magic.
