If the patches aren't overly complex, maybe better to go ahead and add
them anyway while we await the next release.  Can you post them to the
list so I can take a look?
 
I never bothered to finish once I saw my efforts were duplication of effort.

Do this:
apt-get source lsh-utils
# that's what Ubuntu calls it, Debian might be different

Then look in "debian/patches" to see their patches.

I wouldn't bother. It would be duplication of effort. Just refer people to debian source.
Or better, encourage a stopgap release of what ever 2.04 is now.
