Really, nothing depends on it at the moment.

Maybe... I don't think the name of the options matters, as long as
it does the job. But, even if we introduce --enable-debug, we'll
still have to specify --enable-maintainer-mode in order to rebuild docs
cleanly, unless we write Makefile.in ourselves...
