Yes, and 'tar xf -' is not working also. I think system reinstall is pending, but I still can't understand why tar 1.23 is working fine ? Well, but ok. By the way, have you tried on amd64 architecture to extract my files from FTP server ?

OK, I just wanted to make clear that there are other ways to prove as I got the
impression that the OP believes that that is a bug in gtar.
