Thank you Richard for your reply. I've done a reply all as requested.
I've attached my broken version for your perusal.
I'm gradually getting to grips with Denemo and have now finished of my first opus (probably too grand a title, considering), complete with beams! Next step is to get a midi keyboard and am considering a AKM320 (sounds like a semi-automatic weapon) any thoughts/recommendations?

Thanks for your help.
God bless.

Therefore, as a work-around, I set up a 'new' score and did a copy

the 'bad' score into the 'new' and beaming worked as required.
Good to hear you have got your score back on track. A couple of things
that might help for the future
       * If you suspect something has changed the default settings you
can use the Score and Movement Properties Editor to look through
what global properties have been set. Failing that, it could be
something set on the staff - use the Staff Properties Editor to
sniff around and delete anything suspicious.
       * You can chop out most/all of the actual music (with
Staffs/Voices->Delete Measures From Cursor) and email the file
(compressed/archived is good) for me to look at. When I know how
people can get stuck with Denemo I can put in safeguards to warn
         - this has happened quite often. If you still have your broken
version of the score, I would love to see it!

Let me know if you hit any further snags.

Richard
