Well, I have dell laptop but have no clue which usb controller it has. Now I am not sure whether I should by one or not. Anyway, should newer versions of usb have higher speed and thus bandwidth.

Very few people use it on linux without problems. If you have a USB 1
port it will probably work, otherwise you will likely get the
"insufficient bandwidth" bug.

There are however no problems with the original Funcube Dongle Pro
