Why do you remove?
rm -rf $DOWNLOAD_PATH/$PACKAGE
I think these files will be usefull after update
from cvs. [one need not to build the whole stuff always again]
?? did your scripts somehow count with update from cvs?
?? is it necessary always to rebuild everything?
