Thank you and all others who contributed.

I have tried to create a Freshmeat announcement last week. I put a bit modified
information from ChangeLog entries there:

http://freshmeat.net/projects/gnustep/?branch_id=41995&release_id=176123

It would be good to create official news announcements whenever any major or
interesting functionality is commited to the CVS. Similar to KDE gets support
for X and GNOME gets support for Y, then why not that GNUstep gets integrated
support for CUPS (as mentioned in the freshmeat announcement)? Change-log
entries can be reused many times: first for inter-group announcement, then for
FM and then for others. As I learned from this single snapshot,
interesting news entries can be created from ChangeLogs.

Those little things definitely are news. And if for nothing else, those
announcements can create impression, that there is something happening.

Here is small example with the recent CUPS commit. If you think more steps
further, you can imagine possible consequences. "GNUstep gets CUPS" can mean:

- GNUstep can handle printing in some special way
- if CUPS was mentioned as an alternative, then there should be others, so
printing is modular
- perhaps there is more interesting stuff behind GNUstep printing
- etc.

There are many implications from simple news message. Therefore it is not just
"text system improvements commited" or "image handling implemented", not for
observers from outside world who do know nothing or little about the project. It
would be worth mentioning on some other news sites, as FM has limited audience
type. Mentioning credits, where possible, can also be encouraging for
developers.
