Hey,

if you -cough cough- use ubuntu, then use gnustep packages even. Those
will pull in the correct dependencies. Most probably you will need
debian packages. If you take the route to compile and install the stuff
yourself, you should be clever enough to tackle some pretty trivial
dependencies. They are usually easy to understand (since configure or
make will fail) or read the instructions on the site which are pretty
comprehensive. Or as in the irc channel.
If you take the source path to get something installed, you are putting
yourself in he position of some more care. That's life, not just with
gnustep, but with about every source package.
On a standard unix install like Debian, typical redhat-derives, Netbsd,
OpenBSD or FreeBSD which already have some graphical environment most
dependencies are really there. On NetBSD you are fine, on most linux
systems you need to pull in the developer headers, but I state again, if
you take the "compile-it-yourself" (CIY...) route, then you are in fact
a little developer, thus accept that and cope with that.
