isn't there any way around that other than not upgrading? would nice to not worry about changing filename scheme without having to wipe the backup(s) and start over.

Given that the indentation is already inconsistent anyway, I think
it's a good idea.
(PEP-8 meaning 4 spaces, which seems to be almost universally
standard.)
