You need to report this as a bug.  The paramiko backend has a bug parsing the SSH options since these were intended for SSH consumption only.  For now, remove the nested double quotes and you should be good to go.

Yes, when I echo my variables, they look good. But they seem to be something else internally than what their string representation shows. I guess it's got to do with argv[] or something.

How about running this with 'duplicity ... &> duplicity.log' and
attaching duplicity.log to the reply.  That would help a lot.

What do you mean? What I posted is everything duplicity says. There's nothing more I've left out.
