I think it very much depends on the school and the teachers.

I would probably start by going to the school for a few weeks/months and
just look at the situation. During the lessons you will see what software
they use, what software the recommend what they expect from the pupils.

Than if you know more about the situation and the teacher you can
think about what you want to do and what could be possible.

If there are open minded teachers you could speak to some of them.
Maybe offer to organize a Free Software workshop with other pupils for
the pupils. Maybe you can convince them to use some Free Software
like a web browser, office program, etc. or allow the pupils to uses them
for their homework.

Maybe they offer PDF files on their webpage and link to non-free PDF
readers and you can convince them to link to pdfreaders.org instead.

That are just some random ideas. But my general advice would be to
first take some time and look at the situation, get to know the teachers,
other pupils, the school, etc. Than think about what could be done and
how it could be done. Don't try to much at once. Often it's better to
take many small steps.

Please keep us up-to-date about your experience and your efforts.

best wishes,
Björn
