Maybe this is just a misunderstanding? I meant (set-variable ...), not
set-default.

Per A answered in another message that (custom-set-variables ...) was meant
to replace set-variable. I believe (set-variable ...) is seldom used in
code. It is just a bit confusing that it does not record things the same way
as (custom-set-variables ...) - or at least as I believe the last one does
it.
