That's a strawman. I've not talked about "helping users". The ability
to run Emacs on Windows does not give me "whatever [I] happen to
want". It gives me the four freedoms (run, study, copy, improve) with
respect to Emacs; that I'm running it on Windows is irrelevant. What
you're defending is a very long-term freedom-for-all at the cost of
restricting short-term freedom for those of us who can not, or want
not, to do the switch at once.

When I use Emacs on GNU/Linux, I enjoy the freedom of Emacs; I don't
think of it as "making GNU/Linux more convenient"; if anything, Emacs
is making my life more convenient by giving me freedom. And the same
goes for Emacs on Windows.
With respect to your poll: I have not rejected Windows yet, so I'm
certainly using proprietary software. But, OTOH, if I had not found
Emacs on Windows I wouldn't be contributing to Emacs right now. Does
that count as a positive or as a negative in your view?
