This hasn't actually been true on major Linux
distributions like Ubuntu for a while,
The term "Linux distributions" is a misnomer -- Ubuntu is a GNU/Linux
distribution. To call it a "Linux distribution" is unfair to the GNU
Project, which includes all of us here, and impedes our work today.
Please call it a "GNU/Linux distribution", and please say you're
doing this on the GNU/Linux system.
