Can you recompile your emacs using --with-x-toolkit=lucid and see if you
can reproduce the problem using that version?
As shown by the warning printed by Gtk emacs --daemon, there are known
problems with that version that are not fixable in emacs.  It's possible
you are seeing those problems...
