Agreed; it would be a waste - whether or not it is used
frequently.  Likewise for other simple repeatable keys mentioned,
such as `M-]', `M-SPC', `C-SPC', `M-#', and `M-+'.

Yes.  Put the key on prefix `C-x r'.  Do not waste a quick key
on it.
