I don't see why you believe there would be an inverse.  Suppose I have
abbrevs

u -> Uwe
b -> Brauer
ub -> Uwe Brauer

What should (unexpand-region-abbrev "Uwe Brauer") return?




It would check the word ahead if part of expansions.
Than select the longest match, in this case "ub".
