It seems a bit complicated as the feature is not very well documented. In the mean time, I've checked in a configure test so that dumping works on Fedora 2 (and possible 1 but I don't have access to that). I'll fix PROBLEMS soon.Thanks! Work nicely on Fedora 2. WDYT of the following (untested) change to also check that exec-shield is enabled. [ As I never used autoconf myself my patch might be wrong ;-) ]
I considered that but decided against it. You can have exec-shield disabled at configure time and enabled at compile time. And besides, if it is disabled and we treat it as enabled, the results are the same. One idea would be to build Emacs normally with exec-shield off and then turn it on to get exec-shield protection on the resulting Emacs binary. Then your patch would make sense. But it does not seem to work that way as far as I can tell. Jan D.
