Now it is obvious that the identifying symbols before the menu-items
are being downcased from their respective menu strings, and that we
get duplicate symbols this way.
Who is doing the downcasing?
I think it is easy-menu-intern.
The reason for downcasing there is that the convention is to capitalize
menu item strings, but menu item symbols are normally lower-case.
We could change it to reverse the case of letters that don't follow
other letters.
