Timestamps will complicate merging patches from other people. It'll
generate reject files for the timestamp changes, though that's not
the end of the world.

For stuff with build processes the version number can just be encoded
in the built file. For things like emacs-wiki, well, we really need a
script to package up a "distribution" version with any relevant tags
added.

Bit of a pain - the alternative would be to hack support into arch to
do it. I gather Tom Lord wasn't very enthusiastic about it due to
merging complexities - but maybe I'm mistaken. I'd still rather arch
than CVS though :-)
