I use ido mode, which is part of CVS GNU Emacs. ido is like iswitchb.
In fact, I use it almost exactly like I used iswitchb before, as I
turned off the file shortcuts of ido...

ido makes it so easy to manage the gazillions of buffers I have open.
I don't close buffers unless I have to. =)

I bind certain keys to toggle between the current buffer and a useful
display. F7 toggles between whatever I'm looking at and a web browser,
and F9 etc. are my planner/remember shortcuts.
