The escaping ability still needs some work. Special characters by
themselves in text will not be escaped in any publishing style. I'm
trying to figure out a good solution for this.
<technical-ramble> I might add a no-escape property to any text that
gets output via muse-markup-text. Then after doing all publishing
rules, escape the characters that don't have the no-escape or
read-only properties. I should also add context to escaping, so that
different characters can be escaped throughout the document, in links,
in <example> regions, and/or in =verbatim= regions.
