Thanks!  That's exactly what I had in mind.  Would you be willing to
assign the copyright for this change to the FSF?  If so, I'll send you
the questionnaire to start the process.

If I modify your patch a bit (and I'll do so anyway for the FIXME), we
wouldn't absolutely have to have an assignment from you, but we would
definitely need an assignment if you want to make further changes to
ERC (the basic metric for that is 15+ lines changed, in total).
