WARNING: INSTALLING THE CURRENT CVS WILL PROBABLY BREAK YOUR SYSTEM
Sort of, the LIGHT hinting mode has been modified to duplicate its
behaviour, but:
- it's not the default (you need to select "light" hinting in the font
preferences dialog,
or tweaking your fonts.conf file)
- it doesn't force the auto-hinter on all font formats, like David
Chester's patch.
I'll try to see in the future
I've been able to test it on my desktop with a set of horrible linker
tweaks that event I
don't fully understand, but the rendering changes work well. Curiously,
it looks a lot better
on a desktop than in ftview :-)
I'm now only focusing on getting all the correct bits and pieces to be
able to install
the current sources on a machine without breaking everything. This will
most certainly
require upgrading your versions of GLib, Pango, FontConfig, libXft and a
few others.
Also, some deprecated cache APIs are probably going to come back since
there are
a lot of packages that already depend on them, and that shouldn't imply
problems
in the internals.
More on this later,
